Day 2 of my attempt of a Picasso rendition.

About 2 more hours of painting detailing the face and other sections. I decided to leave some of the under-painting untouched to be more textural and washy.

I am unhappy with the face, the coloring isn't right and the face looks flat, not rounded. I may end up repainting the face......

I started the actual painting today.

Acrylic on 24x36 Fredrix Canvas

I stared off the under-painting with washes to "outline" the big parts of color and shapes. There is no detail yet. I spend about 2 hours doing this.

This is actually my first major painting I've attempted. It;s easily 10 times bigger than any other one I have done and it is going, in my opinion, quite well.

I coupled Drawing The Devil along with a few other pieces into a serious of religious influenced collages.

This one depicts a Preacher figure that is basically a puppet. I love the rhythm that the black lines create by chopping the piece.

I call myself Agnostic because my views on religion are not yet defined. These collages help me, in my opinion, to sort out mt beliefs and express my views without hurting or offending others.

I decided to do a collage of a demonic figure. It is compiled of some scraps of old projects

I tried to create a bright white focal point in the left eye. My composition was of a geometric figure, triangle, so that the viewer's eye followed the path from eye to eye to left hand's fingers.

I like the contrast of the features of the face; horns, eyes, arms; in contrast to the plainness of the head piece and body structure.

The Portrait of Ambroise Vollard Study #2

My second attempt to try out this Picasso.

I see now that the blues should work with greens to create cool colors, that complement the face. The lines that make up the painting aren't black. They are dark blue. I don't like the gray i used to do the beard. Its too dark. I think i will add blue. Overall, i like this piece.

It is acrylic on canvass paper, and took 2 hours.

I decided to focus on the face for the first study. I started with the black likes that out line the face and contours. After i stated with yellow ocher and filled in the highlights. Next yellow ocher mixed with blue for the low-lights.

This study took about 1-2 hours and is about 8x10.

I found that the face of this man tells so much about his personality. He is obviously aged; balding and wrinkled.

The intricacies of his face alone is an outstanding work of art. The time it must have taken for Picasso to draw, plan and execute this face alone. Even thought the face is about 1/4 of the entire painting, it is the focal point of the piece.

Portrait of Ambroise Vollard By Picasso

For a project, I'm doing a paraphrase (reproduction) of The Portrait of Ambroise Vollard.
I'll be using acrylic paint on a 24x36 canvass. I'll also be doing a few "studies" of acrylic on canvass paper. This project should take about 3 weeks and hopefully will produce a decent rendition of this intense painting by Picasso.

Dark Figure

This was made out of ink on canvass pressed on to paper

I feel as if this picture is of a dark figure. There was no thought put in to composition except when I cut it into 4 pieces and spaced apart. The tension in the picture pulls the 4 separately cut pieces into one whole unified picture.

This was one of my first art pieces. I had a hard time cutting up a great picture.

But i found that randomness still has to be roped and molded into something more. I don't feel like i had learned the process of composing a piece, yet this piece worked. Now that i have learned elements of art i can see why this piece worked.
